The Tiwanaku culture is one of the most important during the period before America was been uncovered. Because near to three thousand years (2800 years)  Tiwanaku achieved important progress about science, art, architecture and agriculture.

According to  excavations made by the National Direction of Archeology and Antropology , the Tiwanaku culture is divided in three periods:  Village from 1500 year before Christ to 45 year after Christ; the classic urban from 45 year after Christ to 700 year after Christ; and the Expansive period from 700 year after Christ to 1200 year after Christ.

With simple lines in the designs, Tiwanaku architects built big temples; the Tiwanaku engineer built superficial network and underground channels to eliminate drain water.

Tiwanaku had clever rock worker.  The metallurgists covered the monument faces with gold. The wise people oriented astronomically  the temples with good precision.

The most important structures are: Pumapunku, Kalasasaya temple,  Underground temple, Akapana pyramid, Kerikala and Putuni.

The underground temple has Tiwanaku people and puma heads nailed on the visible wall.

The main entrance to the Kasasaya temple causes big impression.

According to the research, the Akapana pyramid is estimated as the second most big one on the world.  The first one most big is Keops pyramid in Egypt.  Akapana pyramid is built in the Tiwanaku culture.

The high stoop in 7 levels on the plant and rock walls worked in sandy rock.  The Akapana pyramid has 182 meters wide, 194 meters long and 18 meters high, on an area of 2800 squared meters.

Tiwanaku is known by the monolitos and the sun door.

The Ponce monolito has been uncovered the 8th November of 1957 into the excavation unity H-13, in the court-in of Kalasasaya, at 210 centimeters deep.  It signifies the Tiwanaku divinized authority. It is carved in gray andesita rock. It measures 3 meters high and 79 centimeters maximal wide and 54 centimeter thick.  The Tiwanaku statues are the most important of Tiwanaku sculpture. The name Ponce is homage to Dr. Carlos Ponce Sanjinés, the uncover.

The Fraile monolito is similar to  catholic priest. It is located near to the south-west corner of Kalasasaya. It means a dressed man with a head band, mask and brings a keru coup and  a reign --symbol of double power-- visible between the fold finger of the right hand.

The Bennett monolito is the bigest statue, sculpted in red sandy rock, has 730 centimeters high, included 180 centimeter base and 127 centimeters maximal wide. It has been uncovered by Bennett in the hole VII near to the center of the underground temple.  The original position of this sculpture was oriented toward the south, that means to the high stoop, entrance to the underground temple.

The 8th July  1933, Bennet monolito is translated by train to Prado avenue, in the La Paz city center.  The years 1940's a copy of Bennet monolito is translated to underground temple of Miraflores, in La Paz city center.  Now the Bennet statue is in Tiwanaku, its original place.

The sun door represents the State boss divinized.  The man-God, who mixes the power and unifies the three cosmic spaces. The sun door is the most important representation of Tiwanaku culture. It does not means the sun, as the general people believe.
